Its flame retardant technologies are categorized into two main types: halogen-based flame retardancy and halogen-free flame retardancy. For halogen-free glass fiber reinforced flame retardant nylon 6/66, red phosphorus and melamine salts stand as the most commonly utilized flame retardants. Typically, this halogen-free nylon achieves an FRV0 flame retardant rating, featuring low precipitation, superior anti-dripping performance, and outstanding electrical and heat resistance. These properties enable it to meet the processing requirements of components like electrical connectors and power switches.
Nevertheless, enhancing the flame retardant grade inevitably requires increasing the flame retardant dosage. Regardless of the flame retardant type employed, the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced nylon tend to decrease overall — though red phosphorus and nitrogen-based flame retardant nylon exhibit relatively better retention. The higher the proportion of flame retardant added, the more significant the drop in strength, which may render the material unsuitable for processing certain structural components.
